Another day, another run

Today, it was exorbitantly hot outside.

However, that did little to deter Erika and I from getting in 55 minutes this evening, thanks mostly to the creepy tree cover of the Pfeifer loop. Honestly though, the weeds (poison ivy?) of Pfeifer grow so ferociously, so densely, and so damned annoyingly that I fear Pfeifer will be completely over grown within the coming week. Until then, I’ll take the noticeably cooler temperature within over the scorching heat outside.

That being said, this is what Pfiefer most resembles when in the company of another runner…

While this best portrays the irrational fear with which I perceive it while running alone.

And at times, if the imagination really gets to wandering…

Holy crap, forget it. I’m never going back in Pfiefer alone. Ever.

I’ve sufficiently freaked myself out…

Bahahaha

Just another one of life’s truisms.

The week that was

Sometimes, when one looks forward to something for quite awhile, when that event actually comes to pass, there is left an almost empty feeling. The Go! Mile came and passed yesterday morning and I miss it already. I had an absolute ball helping Erin and Gary in whatever minuscule capacity I could leading up to the shop’s inaugural one mile road race. It went off seamlessly (that I am aware of) and was a blast for the hundreds of participants. I look forward to next year!

I would like to give a shout out to Mauren Kennedy! Mauren, your transformation is so beyond inspiring. You looked fit and beautiful yesterday, and I am so proud of you for having completed your first road race. It’s people like Mauren that give you a reason to smile everyday!

Also, a shout out to Johnathan Cherono, the goofy Kenyan who treated yesterday as a mile repeat workout when he mistakenly ran in the Men’s Open race and then came back to run in the Elite heat. I’m not sure how many people could race a mile, then race another one faster only an hour later.

Lastly, I miss my Mexican Delight already. Mar is bound for Spain and I hope she has the most amazingly wonderful time there. Though I have a preference for Madrid, she will be spreading her love and spending her time in Salamanca. Mar, be sure to take pictures of all of the beautiful Spaniards!

Generally, I’m one of those many people who has a constant case of the Mondays. However, my day, which began around 8am, was eventful and fun. At 9am, I went to the store to have the Go! artist sketch my picture. And by sketch my picture, I mean, sketch the pictures of all new members of the Go! staff. So in that regard, I’m not at all special, but I’m beyond digging my cartoon. The store had a bizarrely, yet welcome, burst of people come in in the late afternoon. Such surges propel us through the day, and I found that the day was nearly over in what only seemed like a few hours. I was able to get in two runs today, one around 6 miles in the heights, and the other, a 3 mile total shakeout/speed type run. I’ll take my 9 mile day, thank you very much!  Shortly, a 9 mile day will seem like nothing. But for today, I feel worn out (in a good way) and am ready to retire to bed!

It's going to be a warm one!

I think the high is around 96 today, so naturally, hydration is in order.

Of course then, I’m starting my day off with a huge cup of coffee. Typical.

Tonight is the Go Running Thursday night run! Be there or be SQUARE!

It’s going to be quite the hot summer, fortunately, I’ve yet remained unaffected. Me thinks it was about 97F yesterday evening when I went for a short run on the River Trail at Murray Park, but a breeze from the river made it very enjoyable. Granted, I was sweating like a hooker in church, but the run went just fine. Thankfully, I managed to replenish my electrolyte stores afterwards with a healthy serving of Santitas tortilla chips. If I were to only be able to eat one thing for the rest of my life, I would pick Santitas without hesitation, hopefully, with the stipulation that milk be included. I can think of few greater snack combos than Santitas and milk.

Anyways…this week marks the first week of real summer training following a much needed break. Technically, the training started last week. However, last week was comprised of like four short runs. Monday was a 45 minute run with strides. I tried to run it in Pfifer Trail, but it was creepily dark in there. Surely I would have been jumped by some gnarly wildabeast. So I avoided the dark abyss and ran entirely on the River Trail. Yesterday was much of the same story, just a 40 minute run, also on the River Trail.

Since I’m not working today, I’ll probably try and find some place a little more accessible from the house to run. I’ve missed that beautiful tired feeling in my legs that one gets from running daily.

PS: I was creeping online and I’ve become smitten with Susan Kuijken. She ran at FSU, and for all intents and purposes, is one cool chic. A native of the Netherlands, she has powder blonde hair and is hilariously reminiscent of Legolas from the Lord of the Rings franchise.

Feeling me?

Idk, they remind me of one another for some reason.

Anywhoo, I found multiple pictures of her in a black sequin headband. Frankly, I’m digging it.

Bottom line, I like Suzy. She has sweet style, a ballin’ “Queen Wave,” and a discernibly awesome attitude. <3

I’m on the hunt for a black sequin headband.

In the meantime, I’ll make an effort to become less of a fair weather blogger. Not that the inconsitency of my posts is necessarily offending a large number of readers. Regardless, an effort will be made.

Off to eat some Santitas and scour the internet for shiny things!

PEACE AND BLESSIN’S Y’ALL
